More Local: Leveraging New Technology to Build Better Local Food Supply Chains

Local produce is one of the fastest growing grocery segments and the demand for farm-to-table fare at restaurants continues to rise. Meanwhile, the regulatory and financial hurdles that farmers must clear to enter the market are also on the rise. Mobile technology, on demand last mile delivery, blockchain and other technologies can make it easier for farmers to access markets and focus on production rather than marketing and distribution. Join us as Mr. Tom Hallaran, Founder of Foodshed.io will discuss how this type of platform can help connect small-scale producers to chefs, supermarkets and institutional buyers

Mr. Tom Hallaran is a founder of Foodshed.io, a local food distribution platform that uses shared infrastructure and blockchain to increase viability of local food supply chains. Mr. Hallaran began his career as a bioinformatician at Washington University's Genome Center automating genome sequencing pipelines. Later as lead developer at advertising network Selectable Media, he managed analytics and product teams before Selectable's sale to Meredith Corporation in 2014. Before Foodshed.io, Mr. Hallaran ran the technology practice at IB5k, a software and analytics consultancy which works with Fortune 500 clients, leading organizations, and startups such as Google, AT&T, Bank of America, the World Bank, Oxfam and others to improve legacy technology and materialize new products. In his spare time he enjoys working on his small farm in southern Vermont. Mr. Hallaran holds a BA from Columbia University.
